The Isetta

This one brings back lots of memories. My Grandpa used to drive me around in one of these when I was a child in Germany. It was a neat little car and I'm sorry that we sold it after Grandpa passed away. I was too young to realize the value of this automobile.

As you can see from the box below, this car is a plastic model (1:24) that I am converting into a slotcar. I am using most of the original parts of the model, although I had to do a major change with the rear wheel. The model comes with only one wheel in the back but for better traction and running I added the 2nd wheel and and added pieces as suspension for it. I replaced the original wheels with Scalextric ones. I placed the gear where the original wheel would have gone. Tires, wheels, axle, bearing, gear and motor are from Scalextric. The 1:1 Isetta in Germany used to have 2 back wheels, while the English version only had one.

I also built this one from a plastic model kit with metal parts. The chassis is made of metal therefore it's heavier.
