This
VW Beetle started of as die-cast metal collectors car, scale 1:24.
I cut out the underbody and the backseats to make room for the
engine. Replaced the original tires and axles with Scalextric
ones. The engine is also from Scalextric. Due to this being a
die-cast car, it's very heavy (198G) therefore I do not run many
laps with it as the engine gets very hot. After modifying the
axles by adding plactic bearings, both beetles are running much
better and don't overheat anymore.
VW Beetle converted to a slot car
View of engine inside the beetle.
Underneath the beetle. I originaly ran the car with the guide
behind the axle,
but this did not work so moved it as its shown in the photo.
Next project.
Finished 2nd VW beetle turned into slot car.
Another cast iron buggy with 2 motors, one for the front wheels
and one for the back wheels, a heavy 4x4. The motor for the front
wheels is placed on the right side (see picture below right) so
that it doesn't interfere with the guide. It runs better than
the 2 bugs above.
